My paintings are made in a mixed technique of oil paint and pencil.I work on a basis of waterproof board (masonite) and wall paint or latex paint.

I draw over the oil paint

• over a thin layer of nearly dry paint
• in the thick, wet paint
• beside the oil paint I draw “grey colours”

I am very limited in the use of colours.Earth colours and yellow colours are combined with grey colours: from deep black to light grey. Sometimes I give it a blue or red accent by way of contrast.

As townsman and - at present -villager I experience the small bits of polder beside the hustle in the congested Randstad as spaces of serenity and freedom. For me clouds, trees, house, plumes of smoke, clothes line, swing, stork nest and fencing are symbols of: life, youth, hope, shelter, home and freedom.

I see my paintings as representation of the Dutch Landscape.
